Mindful Nourishment Matters

Mindful Nourishment Matters is our community outreach initiative to provide education and resources for eaters who want to eat well for their health as well as creating local market demand for farmers.  Its also about using resources we have wisely.  We found a need for more awareness and education around locally and sustainably grown foods and how it can impact our health, environment and local economy.  Plus, we give you great tips for cooking food at home-it doesn't have to be complicated!  Read on...

Cooking Local

We think there's a great opportunity to fuel our community with fresh, nutrient dense food that fights chronic disease, reduces cancer risk and leads to better physical and mental health.

But we find there are challenges, from  overwhelming food information to a need for convenience, from high cost of lack of access to not having skills or being sure how to start cooking with fresh local foods.

To help, we've put together guides to help you cook with seasons, make quick, healthy dinners and stock your pantry for convenient quick meals.  Plus we've compiled an organized list of recipes to help you gets started!

Community Outreach

We want to make it as easy as possible for our community to know about, access and eat nutrient dense, whole grain foods.  We do this through educational events, cooking classes, nutrition education, and our bi weekly newsletter.  We highlight issues of food security, access, and how agricultural practices affect our nutrition and environment plus offer ways you can put this info to use, all in a positive supportive way. Check out our events page for upcoming classes and workshops or sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page!

Gathered Local Foods Market

We are making it easier for farmers and eaters to connect!  Check out Gathered Local Foods Market, a year round online store with products like fresh produce, eggs, meat and cheese from local producers that can be picked up conveniently in one place each week.

Gleaning PRogram

Using what we already have growing in our community is a great way to preserve resources and lower food costs.  We are working to put unharvested fruit trees to good use for our community. Two ways to get involved: Donate the fruit from your tree or volunteer to help us harvest.

Food is Medicine programs

A Work in progress...

You are what you eat, right?  We hope to develop local connections between food and healthcare to prevent and reduce chronic diet related disease.

Food is Medicine interventions include the provision of foods that support health, such as medically tailored meals or groceries, or food assistance, such as vouchers for produce.  Our first target program is a food prescription program that would use a local CSA to provide weekly vegetable boxes to participating members along with health coaching and nutrition education.

While we work on this complex issue, check out our healthy local eating guides to start you on the path to a more nutrient dense diet.
